Lion Nathan has been brewing beer since the mid 1800’s and embodies the history of Australia’s beer industry. We have committed to maintaining the traditional aspects of brewing beer, while modernising technology and equipment to ensure continuous improvement of processes and systems in safety, production, service and environmental management.
Due to our long and valued history, many of our facilities are considered to be icons in the communities in which we operate. Our Castlemaine Perkins Brewery in Brisbane; the James Boag & Son Brewery in Launceston and the Canterbury Brewery in Christchurch NZ are just a few examples of hundreds of years of brewing history. In addition, many parts of the Castlemaine Brewery are heritage listed under State Government legislation while our other facilities are considered to be just as valued and rich in heritage.
We are therefore committed to putting in place systems and controls which meet or exceed regulatory compliance and codes of practice, preserve our good reputation and iconic value and which prevent environmental harm from occurring. We monitor our environmental performance according to strict standards set in our environmental authorities.
In February 2009, the Queensland government introduced
protective legislation for our Milton brewery into the Queensland Parliament due to the introduction of multi-storey inner-suburb residential developments. Over quite some time, we have worked directly with the developers to ensure that new tenants coming into the area are fully aware of the local environment and the breweries operations. This will help provide everyone with a clear understanding of their rights, and the rights of existing tenants such as XXXX. We have also agreed to make available our
EPA Permit and
Brewery Registration Certificate for those members of the public who may be interested.
While the new legislation significantly restricts the rights of the new high-rise tenants to commence legal proceedings against the brewery, Castlemaine will of course, in keeping with our commitments, continue to abide by all the rules and regulations governing noise, traffic movements and emissions and we will also always aim to work constructively with the local community to resolve any issues that might arise.
