Brewer, Tooheys Brewery

I first joined Lion Nathan in September 1998, as Sensory Co-ordinator at Lion Breweries in Auckland. It was Lion Nathan’s reputation as a good employer, its strong brands and my desire to have a career in the brewing industry that attracted me to the role and Lion Nathan.

In my first role of Sensory Co-ordinator I was responsible for running the quality assurance tasting program. This was a great place to get to know our products and the people responsible for making them. After a year I was promoted to Laboratory Team Leader also at Lion Breweries in Auckland. This gave me my first opportunity to manage a team and demonstrated to me that there are ample opportunities within Lion Nathan to grow and develop.

In April 2001 I moved to Sydney and joined the Tooheys Brewery team. In my time at Tooheys so far I have had four different roles. These roles have included Technical Officer, New Product Development Brewer, Packaging Quality Team Leader up to my current role of Brewer within the Tooheys Brewing Team.

Through these roles I have had the opportunity to gain great experience and have grown both professionally and personally through these experiences. Some of the highlights include leading the team that successfully implemented the Tooheys HACCP food safety program, developing new brews in the pilot plant and being involved in the implementation of Proficy, Toohey’s Production Information Management System. Now in my current role as Brewer I am involved in managing process improvements and project work to ensure we consistently produce high quality beer.

In addition to the roles I’ve held in my time with Lion Nathan I have been sponsored in part time study and have successfully completed my Masters of Business and Technology and my Associate Membership Exams for the Institute of Brewing and Distilling.

So in the seven plus years I have been at Lion Nathan I have gained great experience both professionally and personally and have had the pleasure of working with a large number of like minded people who are as equally passionate about beer as I am!
