In March 2006, Lion Nathan helped to establish a new and more efficient environmental programs body under the Australian Food and Grocery Council known as the Packaging Stewardship Forum. This follows our 27 years of continuous membership of the Beverage Industry Environment Council (BIEC) which has funded over $64 million of recycling, litter and resource recovery projects including the highly visible and successful “Don’t Waste Australia” campaign.
Our Environmental Director represents Lion Nathan on the Forum and all BIEC members have agreed to continue their voluntary funding commitment to resource recovery and litter abatement through the Packaging Stewardship Forum.
The Packaging Stewardship Forum’s programs will provide infrastructure and educational support to encourage resource recovery of food and beverage packaging and major recycling programs at theme parks and shopping centres.
More information about the results of our involvement can be viewed under Packaging Stewardship Case Studies.
