About Us Our Success Sustainability & Sponsorship Policy & Economic Contribution Corporate Governance Locations and Contacts

We have committed to a program to establish Environmental Management Systems certified to the international standard AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004. Our Tooheys brewery in Sydney is already ISO 14001 third-party certified and we are currently working towards certifying systems to ISO 14001 in all of our business units..

Additionally, there are a number of environmental protocols we commit to as part of our environmental strategy:

  • The Australian National Packaging Covenant and New Zealand Packaging Accord - The leading instruments for managing packaging waste in Australia and New Zealand.
  • The Packaging Council of New Zealand – The industry association that address issues relating to packaging usage and waste in New Zealand.
  • The Australian Packaging Stewardship Forum (previously known as the Beverage Industry Environment Council) - The industry association that aims to create sustainable solutions for beverage packaging and waste in Australia.
  • The Greenhouse Challenge Plus Program – A voluntary, joint initiative between the Australian Government and industry aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The National Pollutant Inventory – An Australian Government program which involves reporting emissions from fuel combustion and other operational activities.
  • Water Management Programs – Our largest brewery, Tooheys, participates in Sydney Water’s voluntary ‘Every Drop Counts’ water reduction program and the NSW Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability water reduction program. Castlemaine Perkins has a Water Efficiency Management Program under the Brisbane Water Authority.
  • Energy Management Programs – Lion Nathan Australia has signed up to the Federal Government Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program and Tooheys in the NSW Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability energy reduction program.
